CASE STUDY (BARB1011)

This 83 year old female patient, known to the practice for two years, was seen for a routine service visit on her CLASS II full concha hearing aid. A bifid lobule, not present two months earlier, was noted on the left, aided ear. The patient indicated that this condition had its origins with ear-piercing in infancy. In older adult years continued wearing of pierced-type earrings resulted in a progressive atrophy of lobular epithelial tissue, inferiorly. One month ago, the left lobule opened inferiorly with the atraumatic removal of an earring. The right lobule remains intact with an 8 mm elongated perforation.
